Lifehacker.com is one of my favorite DIY website with articles on free softwares and great ideas to improve our lives.

This “Lifehacker Pack 2009: Our List of Essential Free Windows Downloads” article from Lifehacker.com features the important freewares that we need in our desktop PC.

From well known and ever popular Firefox – Web browser and Picasa – Image Tool, they mention about Everything – Desktop File Search Tool (Hana Sara Freeware Blog).

Some of my favorites are

Foxit Reader – PDF reader much faster than Adobe PDF reader and supports tab browsing.
Notepad++ – Simple yet powerful text editor!
7Zip – Free quick , powerful, easy to access Zip utility that you must have
ImgBurn – This is a very nice Free CD/DVD/Blu-Ray burning tool, but my choice is Ashampoo Burning Studio – Free DVD, Blue-Ray burning software

However, the most interesting part is that they have a software package that includes all the softwares (except some license sensitive ones) that you can download. download the Lifehacker Pack bundle . Here is the explanation from the website.

To use it, download the Lifehacker Pack bundle, extract the two files from it into a folder or onto your desktop, and then run the InstallPad app; you’ll see our must-have list ready to download and install in a snap. You can un-check the apps you already have or don’t want, install apps individually, or mass install everything you’ve got checked with one click. We included everything in the InstallPad list except iTunes, Songbird, and the Mozy backup software; the former two because they’re somewhat of an either/or choice (at least in our list), and the latter because it requires a sign-up and registration to really install and use properly.

Quick: Windows Keyboard Shortcut

Shortcuts are good to know if you use computers a lot. Especially they help to reduce the mouse movement which is very important if you suffer from the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I just read this article from Lifehacker and I found these shortcut really great! I never knew that there are shortcuts for these kind of everyday tasks. I love these shortcuts.

Win+R: shows Run dialog
Win+D: toggles Show Desktop
Win+E: starts Windows Explorer
Win+L: locks computer

If you use Firefox , below shortcut are useful too.

Ctrl + L : brings focus to the location bar.
Ctrl + K : brings focus to the search bar.

I usually don’t watch TV or Movies using Internet since I used to think that the streaming Video quality is just not good enough for me staring at the screen.That’s why I don’t usually watch video from the Youtube.

But check out these sites! I just watched several episodes of Heroes from ABC constantly for several hours!

Just watched Titan A.E. (animation movie) from Hulu.com.
The quality is more than good and I enjoyed the movie even with the short AD showing time to time.

Torpark IP confusecator Web browser based on FireFox

Wow! basically this FireFox based browser changes user’s real IP address to a different address every time. So in the web server’s log, it is random ip address.

The downside is that the Internet connection speed is degraded noticebly. I guess its because it may take sometime to change IP address.

It is a desktop search tool with output of graphical relationships between your search result. It can check and analyze your Word Excel and PDF files in your local desktop. It is a nice tool.

It’s now open source. Just setup and use it.

I may be able to find some hidden gems in my dark hidden spot of my desktop.

WP Image Browse = LightBox2 + IImage Browser

This is the link of how-to setup Lightbox2 and IImage Browser plugin for easy photo insertion to a posting. It is very nice!

However, the setup process is not that simple.

Make sure you install PHP-GD rpm package (GD2) for the thumbnail creation by IImage Browser. It is necessary.
